We've created Montessori T-shirts and billboards. We've written and published books and videos. We've started a letter-writing campaign, a resources list, and various other useful tools to help increase Montessori awareness. Here are some of our latest projects:
Featured Project: "The Map"
Ever wondered what was going on in the Montessori movement? Ever wondered how all the pieces fit together, what all the various organizations are, who to contact for a question, or where to find resources? We did too. Now there is "The Map".
This map is a visual display of the Montessori movement. It is a wiki-style map, meaning anyone can edit it, add to it, move things around, add links to websites, add email addresses, etc. It will grow and develop as more and more people add what they know to it. The Map will also change shape as folks move pieces around to better match their perspective on how it all fits together. Whatever modification one person makes to the map instantly updates everyone else's map. But don't let that deter you! Any mistakes you make can be corrected by you or by any other visitor. So play around, practice editing, add what you know, and pass along the link so that others can plug into the movement.
You'll have to experiment with the little "+" and "-" signs to expand or contract the subject tabs. You can also zoom in or out. The only way to get comfortable with it is to jump in and get your hands dirty!

The MadMen would like to provide a space for all Montessori schools to have the opportunity to slash your advertising budgets while at the same time reaping the benefit of a much larger budget. How? Easy: collaborative advertising.
Collaborative advertising is a simple concept. Several schools all chip in a little money to purchase advertising that is much more expensive and effective than any one school could afford. For example, instead of buying a $1,000 radio ad in your area, your school would chip in $500 with 5 other schools and thereby purchase $2,500 worth of air time.
It sounds simple, but of course there are many reasons NOT to do this and we've heard them all. What if my $500 also helps another local Montessori school that does not chip in? How do the schools agree on the ad content, type, and location? I’m AMS and another school is AMI and another is independent; how will that work?
Come together. Figure it out. Lead the way.
The Montessori movement’s time has come. The MadMen are asking for a few brave schools to step up and lead the way. We are trying to spread awareness about Montessori in general. We want more prospective parents walking through your doors. We want folks talking about Montessori, asking about it, debating it. We want more schools working with each other to improve quality, share best practices, and increase enrollment. We want to get this movement moving!
Contact us and say, “We’re in!” We will put your school’s name on the Advertising Clusters list under the region with which you would like to collaborate. Once we get five schools in your area, we will put you in touch with each other and will either help launch the advertising if you wish, or we’ll get out of the way.
Montessori Elevator Speech Contest
Fire up those neurons, loosen those lips, press the elevator button, and hang on for the first official Montessori Elevator Speech Contest. We want YOU to enter!
The contest will be held during a breakout session at the International Montessori Congress (in Portland July 31st through August 3rd, 2013).
All submissions for the contest must be received by June 30th. Send in your elevator speech NOW! While you're at it, why not get several parents and teachers from your school to send in their videos as well? Check out all of the videos submitted to date at the "MontElevatorSpeech" channel on YouTube.
Submit a video of your Elevator Speech to email@example.com. If needed, I will send you a link to a DropBox folder for easy transfer of the file. Send more than one entry if you wish!
If you would prefer to send a written text, that is OK too! Make it around 100-150 words so that it can be read in less than 60 seconds. All of the latest written entries are posted here.
Keep in mind:
—60 seconds or less
—Prizes for the winning submissions are being provided by Nienhuis, Mad About Montessori, Maitri Learning, and more to come.
—Your video (or written text) should answer the question “What is Montessori?” or “Why Montessori?”
—Rules can be changed at the whim of contest organizers, Trevor Eissler and Mark Powell, for the fun of it.
—Videos received are the property of contest organizers. We reserve the right to edit submissions. We may modify them or use them in a montage or for other purposes. We may allow others to use them for Montessori advocacy purposes.
—If you don’t have access to a smartphone or video equipment, you may send a written version of your elevator speech.
Here are the Montessori books written by the MadMen. Spread the word about Montessori!
Here are some quick and fun videos. Feel free to share them with your families, friends, and school communities.
Letter Writing Campaign
We have created some sample form letters for you to use to communicate with others about Montessori. Take them! Use these letters, tweak them to fit your needs, and send them to authors, politicians, film directors, business leaders, school board members or anyone else who needs to be introduced to Montessori. We have a number of different styles and links in the various letters, so use whichever fits your needs. Read our Facebook page to receive regular updates on Montessori articles in the media and who to contact to help engage thought leaders about Montessori. If you have a letter or letters that you have sent in the past, feel free to send them to us so that others can use them, too.
